Rebecca Schmid is the Berlin News Correspondent to Musical America and a freelance journalist based in Germany. Her articles have appeared in publications such as American Record Guide, BBC Music Magazine, Chamber Music Magazine, Das Orchester, Gramophone, the German new music magazine Positionen, The Wall Street Journal, The Scarsdale Inquirer and other local papers in the U.S. Prior to her career in journalism, Rebecca studied the autobiography of Ignaz von Seyfried, a contemporary and rival of W.A. Mozart, under a Fulbright grant in Vienna. She also undertook a research project on the recording industry for Universal Music Classical Management and Productions. Rebecca is a classically-trained singer and has performed as a soloist and in professional choirs throughout Austria and Switzerland. She recently served on the jury for the first edition of the Classical:Next Showcase in Munich. She holds a BA from Brown University in music and comparative literature and an MA in Arts Journalism from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University.
